There will be alternating placement of each terrain piece before each game. Then a 3D6" scatter. Then comes the roll-off for table side. Thanks for bringing this up.

While we're on the subject, are you planning on nicking last Marauders Mayhem's terrain/table contest? We had some good looking tables (I still love that ice-flow table you guys did!). Maybe changing it a little, like if you can't transport a table then having a catagory for terrain pieces. It may be more trouble than it's worth, though still a thought.

If the terrain scatters off the table, does it "bounce back", disappear, or go old-school Nintendo style and come out the other side of the table?

Just some ideas to tweak the terrain rules:
Don't allow pieces to be placed or scatter with 6" of each other. I've seen plenty of games where just by pure luck it all scattered together. So if it scatters within 6", just move it out to 6".
Scatter each piece before placing the next. It helps make sure the final terrain placement looks like something that you'd want to play warhammer on.

Ed, I very much like these suggestions, I'm going to use them. I find myself agreeing with Ed way too much on these topics.

Even though terrain can't normally be placed there, can terrain scatter into within the 12" radius center?

I say sure, that 12" rule is dumb and i've only seen 1-2 people ever do it, i place it there to begin with.

We're pretty strict about it FWIW (but I'm open to whatever, just wondering really so there's no questions at the table).

I say sure, that 12" rule is dumb and i've only seen 1-2 people ever do it, i place it there to begin with. Sergrum Our club had been playing (mostly) using actual red-book rules for terrain: no scatter, nothing within 12 inches, and you can stop placing and give the other guy one more piece after one round of placements. That said, we've pretty much ignored building rules (treat them as impassible) and ignore the idiotic terrain height rules. So yeah... it's best if it's all settled beforehand.
